Success Story of Chetna Tandon
Her story:
Chetna Tandon is an eminent designer and an alumnus of R.I.C.A, Allahabad. She joined the institute in 2007 and enrolled for the one year program in Basic Fashion Designing. Chetna was so inspired by the ambiance and positivity at the institute that she further opted for the Advance Fashion Designing diploma course.
Young Chetna was already inclined towards painting and artistry when she joined the institute. She says, “My subjects in the advanced course were inspiring and a lot of fun. Designing and sketching have always been my favorite hobby because I loved experimenting with colours while I tried to bring my imagination to life. Learning the right techniques of designing and sketching, as a part of the curriculum, got me further interested in the course.”
A Stepping stone in her life
After she graduated, she decided to teach at the institute. She taught Fashion Illustration, Basic Design, and Design Ideas for four consecutive years. Her transition during these years was phenomenal. She confidently handled a class of adult learners.
Against all odds
There was a time in her life where she was very confused and under-confident about her career. After her marriage, she moved to a new city (Hyderabad). It was stressful to cope with these changes in her life but Chetna refused to look back. However, the constant support from her husband and mother helped her to make a comeback.
Her comeback
She contacted Dr. Ruchi Mittal (Principle R.I.C.A, Allahabad) for reviews on the hand prints that she had drawn on her own clothes. Dr. Ruchi guided her and gradually she received orders from boutiques in Hyderabad. She worked on the orders for hand painted fabrics.
Current Ventures:
Today, Chetna has earned a name for herself in a huge city like Hyderabad. She has a huge clientele of her own. The best part is that she enjoys doing what she always loved.
R.I.C.A has been the backbone of Chetna’
s journey. According to her, the institute and Dr. Ruchi Mittal brought about the best in her, believed in her and nurtured her talent and skills.
