Faculty
Dr Ruchi Mital
Dr. Mital's journey is truly impressive! With her diverse academic background in Medieval Indian History, Mughal-era costumes, and modern fashion designing, she seems to bridge both historical and contemporary worlds in fashion. Her Ph.D. work, especially on “Costumes & Attire During the Mughal period,” must have involved a deep dive into the cultural and artistic significance of clothing from that era. It's fascinating to think about how she brings that wealth of historical knowledge into her teaching and practical fashion work.
Her second Ph.D., focusing on "Image Transformation and Change in Clothing Styles of Rural Youth Migrating to Urban Cities for Higher Education," reflects an interesting and relevant topic—how fashion intersects with social mobility and identity. She uses case studies in her teaching to help students understand these shifts in clothing styles over time. Her approach offers some unique insights into how fashion serves as a marker of change in society.
Dr. Ritu Sangal (Senior Faculty)
Dr. Ritu Sangal’s career has been both prolific and deeply rooted in tradition, especially with her expertise in Tanjore and enamel paintings, two art forms that are rich in Indian history. The fact that she’s been teaching for over 35 years shows a deep commitment to nurturing creativity and skill in students. The Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award is a great testament to her impact on the field and her dedication to her craft.
Her Ph.D. on "Art Enamel in India – A Study on Past Trends and Future Applications" is an incredible contribution to the study of enamel work in India. She has the knack to provide students with hands-on experiences in art and design.
Mr. Devendra Pandey (Senior Faculty)
Mr. Pandey’s combination of skills in both fashion design and technology makes him a valuable asset to RICA, especially with his expertise in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software for fashion and textile design. It’s impressive how he blends his creative design background with technical proficiency in graphic design and CAD, which are becoming more essential in modern fashion and textile industries.
With his MBA, it sounds like he brings a solid managerial perspective as well, which would help students not just in learning the technical aspects of design but also in understanding how to apply them in a professional setting. His focus on scaling RICA as a center of quality teaching and learning in CAD & Technology is timely, given how crucial technology is in today’s fashion world. He works directly with students on software skills and integrates CAD into broader design projects. He fosters that balance between creativity and tech in the classroom.
Mr. Sunil Pandey (Senior Faculty)
Mr. Sunil Pandey’s background is quite unique, combining sociology with fashion technology. His understanding of society and its dynamics, paired with his technical expertise in garment designing and fabric fabrication, provides students with a well-rounded perspective on both the artistic and social aspects of fashion. Sociology can offer deep insights into how fashion is influenced by, and in turn influences, cultural norms, social structures, and identity, which gives his students a richer understanding of the role of clothing in society.
His focus on practical learning is especially valuable in a field like fashion design, where hands-on experience is key. By emphasizing a practical approach, he helps students bridge the gap between theory and real-world application.
Pradeep Kumar Singh (Faculty)
Pradeep Kumar Singh’s expertise in shorthand and typing is an essential skill set in today’s fast-paced world, especially in professional environments where communication efficiency is key. His determination and discipline must make him a great mentor, helping students not only master technical skills but also develop the work ethic and focus necessary to succeed in any field.
It’s interesting how shorthand and typing, though sometimes overlooked in modern tech-heavy education, are still foundational skills for effective communication and organization. He focuses primarily on helping students improve their speed and accuracy and he also teaches them how to use these skills in real-world scenarios, such as transcribing and administrative work. His ability to guide students toward meeting their goals makes a huge difference in their overall development.
Mr. Ram Sajiwan (Clothing Lab Assistant)
Mr. Ram Sanjeevan’s background in fashion design and his extensive experience in garment manufacturing and production makes him a key asset to any fashion-related program. With over 20 years of hands-on experience, his expertise spans the entire production process—from fabric selection and pattern making to the technicalities of stitching and finishing.
